Better Kid Care Online Modules to Fulfill Health and Safety PD Requirement ¡Y también disponsible en Español! – Updated Feb. 2021

On behalf of the Office of Child Development and Early Learning (OCDEL), the Pennsylvania Key and Penn State’s Better Kid Care collaborated in 2018 to create new online courses to meet the requirements for all new early childhood education (ECE) professionals (center/group and home-based) in Pennsylvania. Completion of one of the following free Better Kid Care modules is required and once properly completed, individuals receive ten hours of professional development (PD) to fulfill OCDEL’s Health and Safety PD requirement.

  • Get Started with Center-based Care: Building Blocks for Quality (K6.2, C1, CDA6; 10 hours) | To access this module: bit.ly/GetStarted-Center
    • ¡También disponsible en español! Comience con Cuidado Basado en el Centro de Atención: Bloques para Construir la Calidad (K6.2, C1, CDA6; 10 hours) | Para acceder a este módulo: bit.ly/Comience-Centro
  • Get Started with Home-based Care: Building Blocks for Quality (K6.2, C1, CDA1; 10 hours) | To access this module: bit.ly/GetStarted-Home
    • ¡También disponsible en español! Comience con Cuidado Basado en el Hogar de Atención: Bloques para Construir la Calidad (K6.2, C1, CDA1; 10 hours) | Para acceder a este módulo: bit.ly/Comience-Hogar

***NOTE: These free Better Kid Care modules replaced Health and Safety Basics: Requirements for Certification course on July 1, 2018. Any completion of the Health and Safety Basics: Requirements for Certification course after June 30, 2018, does not count toward the new Health and Safety PD requirement and is also no longer free to take.***

After completion, this course will appear on an ECE professional’s Professional Development (PD) Learning Record in their PD Registry profile. Certificates are no longer awarded by the PD Registry. Please allow six weeks processing time after completing a Better Kid Care module for it to appear on an individual’s PD Learning Record.
