Health & Safety Trainings

Health and Safety courses required for Department of Human Services (DHS) can be found in the PD Registry.

To find these courses:

1. Log into your PD Registry account using your email and password at papdregistry.org.

2. Click Search Training Event on the left black menu.

More specific information on how to locate specific subject areas are located below.

Pediatric First Aid and Pediatric CPR

1. Go to the Search Training Events tab, choose First Aid/CPR in the Areas of Interest dropdown, as shown below, and click Search.

2. Click Register and follow the prompts to register for the course. If you are the Director/Owner, you may register yourself and other staff in your program for the course.

Water Safety

1. Go to the Search Training Events tab, choose Water Safety in the Areas of Interest dropdown, as shown below, and click Search.

2. Click Register and follow the prompts to register for the course. If you are the Director/Owner, you may register yourself and other staff in your program for the course.

*NOTE: If you search and do not find a scheduled Water Safety training in the PD Registry, you may take a Water Safety training by a Certified lifeguard outside of the PD Registry. You may also click on the Search Instructor Directory tab in the left, black menu and type in ‘Water Safety’ in the Request to Instruct tab along with entering the county in the Training Counties section to see a list of instructors in your area. You may contact them to see if they have any available sessions in the future.

Fire Safety

1. Go to the Search Training Events tab, choose DHS Fire Safety Training in the Areas of Interest dropdown, as shown below.

2. Scroll down to Training Type and choose classroom or online self-paced.

*Classroom = face-to-face or in-person events

*Online Self-Paced = online courses that can be taken on your own time

3. Next, click Search at the bottom of the page. 

 

4. The top left corner will show Online Self-paced or Classroom depending on what training type was chosen. Click Register and follow the prompts to register for the course. If you are the Director/Owner, you may register yourself and other staff in your program for the course.

5. If you registered for an online course (that is housed within the PD Registry), it will be displayed under the MY PD tab on your PD Registry profile.

Click the My PD tab and then click on the graduation cap icon to begin the course. If you registered for a face-to-face classroom event, you will receive an email with the details of the event.

Mandated Reporter

Mandated Reporter trainings can be registered for either on the PD Registry or on the Keep Kids Safe site.

To register for Mandated Reporter on the Keep Kids Safe site:

1. Go to dhs.pa.gov/KeepKidsSafe.

2. Click on Trainings

3. Click on one of the links on this screen to register for a training.

4. Once you have completed the Mandated Reporter training, you may upload your certificate into your PD Registry account. Once logged into the PD Registry, click on the MY PD tab and then click Edit Training. Next, click on Individual Request Approval and upload the certificate.

NOTE: Certificates from the Keep Kids Safe Mandated Reporter training are NOT verified in the PD Registry. You may still show the certificate to your DHS Representative.

 

To register for Mandated Reporter in the PD Registry:

1. Log into the PD Registry and then click on training event search on the left, black menu.

2. Type Mandated Reported into the Course Title section and click search.

3. This course will appear.

4. Click on the view website tab to go to the ECELS website and follow prompts to register for the course. There is a $15 fee for this course. Once complete, ECELS will mark your completion of the course in your Professional Development Learning Record.

10-Hour Health and Safety

Below is a list of the specific 10-hour Health and Safety courses required by Department of Human Services.  Choose the correct 10-hour course depending on whether you work in a Center Based Child Care or Home-Based Child Care. The 1-hour update is also available.

English:

  • Get Started with Center-Based Care – Revised 2022 Self-Learning Module – Better Kid Care
  • Get Started with Home-Based Care – Revised 2022 Self-Learning Module – Better Kid Care
  • Pennsylvania Health and Safety Update 2022 Self-Learning Module – Better Kid Care

Spanish:

  • Actualización de Salud y Seguridad de Pennsylvania 2022 Self-Learning Module -Better Kid Care
  • Comience con Cuidado Infantil Basado en Un Centro – Revisión 2022 Self-Learning Module-Better Kid Care 
  • Comience Con Cuidado Infantil Basado En Un Hogar – Revisión 2022 Self-Learning Module

To find these courses:

1. Within the Search Training Events tab, type the exact course name in the Course Title section OR choose Required Pre-Service for DHS in the Areas of Interest dropdown, as shown below, and click Search.

2. The list of courses from Better Kid Care will appear in the search. Find the correct course and click on the View Website

3. This will take you to the Better Kid Care website. Click on Required Health and Safety Online Courses.

4. Sign in if you already have a Better Kid Care account. Click Create an Account if you do not have an account. Please make sure to add the exact name, Registry ID, address, and email that is listed on your PD Registry account to ensure you receive credit for the course on your Professional Development Learning Record.

5. Select the correct course.

6. Click OK. Click OK again.

7. Click Start Now

8. Once complete, you will receive credit for the course in your Professional Development Learning Record within 6 weeks if your information accurately reflects the information in the PD Registry. You do not need to upload the Better Kid Care certificates into the PD Registry.
