Professional Development Instructors Application/Requirements Guide

Please review the information below for steps on how to apply or renew, along with detailed requirements.

PQAS Application will be processed in the order they are received. PQAS applications will be processed within 90 days of a completed application. Once processed, you will receive an email with your next steps.

Professional Development Instructors can create their own curriculum in any approved Professional Standard Area and are approved for five years, at which time an online renewal application must be submitted.  

To apply for PQAS

Log into your PD Registry account at papdregistry.org. If you do not have a PD Registry account, create one by following the directions at pakeys.org/pdr-account.

Click Apply for Career Pathway/DC/PQAS.

Check the Complete my Profile (Career Pathway) AND

Check the Apply to become a PQAS Instructor box.

Click Next.

Click Review next to each to make updates as instructed, then click Save/Confirm for each section. If you are unable to complete all steps at once, you can return and finish later.

  2. Click the Term & Agreement Link.
  3. Review/Agree to the PD Registry Policies & Instructor Agreement 
  4. Click Agree to Terms.
  5. Click Submit.

To Renew Your PQAS

Click Manage/Renew Applications.

Click Apply/Renew.

Check Renew my PQAS Approval box.

Initial Requirements

**Required documents can be found at pakeys.org/pqas.
Education  

Higher Education: Bachelor’s transcripts from an accredited institution with a related field. Upload final transcripts that contain the name of the institution, the student’s name, the conferred date, the credits earned, the grade earned, all courses that were taken, and the major.  

Instructor Information 

Curriculum Vitae or Resume: Must include evidence to support training experience within the last five years, AND summary of previous training experience including number of years and topics delivered.  

  • Labeling: Curriculum Vitae (or) Resume  
  • Upload Location: Instructor Documentation section > Curricula Vitae/Resume dropdown. 

**Professional Standard Area Support Form: Select only those areas that are appropriate for your experience and educational background, as supported by attached documentation. Supporting documentation for this could be college transcripts, Learning Record, any experience, etc.  

  • Labeling: PSA Support form 
  • Upload Location: Instructor Documentation section > Professional Standards Area(s) Support dropdown. 

**Professional Development Module: Ensure you review all instructions within the PD Module Template prior to submitting. 

  • Labeling: Professional Development Module 
  • Upload Location: Instructor Documentation section > PD Module dropdown. 

Supporting Handouts: Review all instructions in the PD Module Template before submission. Ensure all handouts are properly organized and accurately labeled within the Handout Section of the PD Module.  

  • Labeling: When labeling handouts for upload, use the following format: Handout 1 ‘Title,’ Handout 2 ‘Title,’ and so on. The titles should match those listed within the Handout Section of the PD Module. We need the physical handout. Do not include links to documents.  
  • Upload Location: Instructor Documentation section > PD Module Supporting Handouts dropdown. 

Courses: The below is verified within the Event Entry section of the PD Registry by the PQAS Team at the review of your application. The following course are required for all PDI applicants.  

*Overview of Keystone STARS: Pennsylvania’s Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS) (no cost) 
*Engaging Adult Learners-Online Course ($7.00 fee) 
*The Pennsylvania Professional Standards and Competencies for Early Childhood Educators (no cost) 
*Submitting PQAS Courses in the PD Registry (no cost) 

To register: 

  1. Click Search Training Events (left-hand menu).
  2. Enter the *Course Title.
  3. Click Search.
  4. Click Register and follow the prompts. 

*To access/complete the course: 

  1. Click on View All My Training to get to the course.  
  2. Click on the blue box to the right of the course title to begin the course. If one does not appear click the course title to be taken to the course details where a link to the course will be provided. 

Payment: This verified within the Event Entry section of the PD Registry by the PQAS Team at the review of your application. 

Along with the application and required documents, a fee of $100 is required. This fee is for the review and processing of the application, including the submitted course, and use of the PD Registry for a five-year time period. Please search course title PQAS Initial Application Fee for Professional Development Instructor Review to submit payment via event registration.  

NOTE: If your module does not pass, a revised module will be required, along with an additional fee of $100.  

Renewal Requirements

Professional Development Taught: Instructors must hold a minimum of five (5) Professional Development events within the PD Registry over the 5- year period to qualify for renewal. 

This is verified within the Event Entry section of the PD Registry by the PQAS Team at the review of your application. 

  • If not listed in the PD Registry, please list within a word document. Include: date, title, hours.  
  • Upload Location: Instructor Documentation section > Professional Standards Area(s) Support dropdown.
