The ICP focuses on the quality of provisions and daily practices that support the developmental needs of children with disabilities in center-based preschool classrooms. The ICP assesses twelve key practices including:
Center-based preschool classrooms that enroll at least one child with an identified disability.
External ICP assessments are conducted by a reliable assessor from the Program Quality Assessment (PQA) team.
Internal ICP assessments are conducted by the program’s internal assessment team. Programs partner with the Quality Coach and PQA team when planning for and conducting internal assessment, and when analyzing the information collected during the internal assessment process.
Information gathered during an ICP assessment can be used to identify quality inclusive practices that support the development and inclusion of all children in the classroom, as well as identify areas for growth. The information gathered can also be used to help create the program’s continuous quality improvement plan.
How to Conduct an Internal Assessment Using the ICP (PDF) is a good place to start. It provides an at-a-glance of the assessment details, a list of materials to support internal assessments, links to professional learning resources, and step-by-step guidance for conducting the internal assessment.
