Ensuring the early childhood education (ECE) workforce is well equipped to support the growth development of today’s youngest children and their families is a top priority of the Office of Child Development and Early Learning (OCDEL). By building statewide systems and standards that align with national recommendations, OCDEL seeks to offer access to a unified professional development (PD) system for ECE professionals, including partnerships with Institutions of Higher Education (IHEs).

Institutions of Higher Education offer degree attainment through their programs of study that advance an individual’s career pathway. Equitable, relevant career pathways allow aspiring ECE professionals seeking to increase their qualifications, to complete programs of study with a solid understanding of the competencies and skills of the ECE workforce in Pennsylvania. While OCDEL is increasing efforts and partnerships to support the preparation of ECE professionals, the office also seeks to work collaboratively with IHEs, so resources, events and reference documents can be shared consistently across the commonwealth. Through these partnerships, efforts will have a greater impact on structural quality at programs and build leadership capacity across the field.
