| Title: | Reframing Discipline...Professional Development Day - McKean County |
| Description: | REFRAMING DISCIPINE is a training series designed to help child care provider, parent, and others who work with young children grasp the basic principles of positive discipline. Exceptional classroom footage, coupled with an innovative training format, provides training experiences that can help bring about real changes in viewers skills. REFRAMING DISCIPLINE consists of three units, each focusing on a core issue of guidance and discipline. Unit 1: Doing the Groundwork: helps participants see how our attitudes about discipline shape the way we work with children. It provides opportunities for self-examination and reflection, and childrens misbehavior instead of against it. Unit 2: Connecting with Every Child: shows that the key to positive discipline is the relationship that we have with a child. This unit demonstrates how changing our relationship with a child who misbehaves is often the most effective intervention. It teaches the technique of acknowledging children and shows how these efforts can help build strong connections that motivate change. Unit 3: Understanding Difficult Behavior: helps show that behavior is communication - that behavior has meaning. This video demonstrates that teachers who learn to read misbehavior can discover the messages behind it. It presents three underlying messages that much of the misbehavior we see is actually communicating. And it demonstrates how teachers who learn to read misbehavior can intervene more sensitively and effectively. |
