Innovation Grant – A Gate Opener Project
Request for Proposals
(July 2009 through June 2010)
The
purpose of the Gate Opener Project is to develop a sustainable support structure
developed to meet the identified needs of and increase the number of working adults
who succeed in obtaining their Early Childhood Education or Child Development Bachelor
Degrees and/or Certification as part of their participation in Keystone STARS 1,
2, 3, or 4, PA Pre-K Counts (PKC), and/or Head Start (HS) Programs.
The Gate Opener
Project is open to all public and private
institutions of higher learning that currently offer ECE or child development bachelor
degrees and/or ECE Certification programs and are prepared and able to assist practitioners
enrolled in Keystone STARS, PA Pre-K Counts, and Head Start programs.
The initiative
will provide up to 15 Pennsylvania Institutions of Higher Education (IHE) with one
year grants between $10,000-$20,000 , with the opportunity to receive funds for
up to three years. Gate Opener Projects
must be designed with sustainability in mind.
This initiative
is a joint project of the Office of Child Development & Early Learning (OCDEL)
in collaboration with the PA Key and the Grable Foundation, the Heinz Endowments,
and the William Penn Foundation.
